Contentment

For as long as I can remember, I've always been a little self conscious. Even back in elementary school, I was worried that my crush, Tony Esparza, would think my legs were too big. I am rereading a book that I would recommend to anyone. It's called "Calm my Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow and its all about contentment. It has so many good, eye opening things in it! From finding contentment in your relationships to being content in your circumstances. But the subject that rang so true to me is about being content with your body. God knew what he was doing! He knew you before you were even formed, and He formed you in His image!! When you have negative thoughts about your body it not only has a negative impact on your life, but it questions God. Kind of puts an interesting spin on the way you really look at yourself, doesn't it? One of the points the author makes is to not be lazy but to make smart choices about eating and exercising. Out body is to be used to glorify God! I have been incredibly blessed with my body. My "bohemian legs" (that I was blessed to inherit from my dad) have allowed me to run races, and ride my bike, and even walk up stairs! So next time you're feeling a little self conscious, just keep in mind that you are fearfully and wonderfully made!

"Contentment is essentially a matter of accepting from God's hand what He sends because we know that He is good and therefore it is good."

Friday Funny

Joe was in big trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary and his wife was really upset.

She told him, "Tomorrow morning I expect to find a gift in the driveway that from 0 to 200 in under six seconds. AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!"

The next morning Joe got up early and left for work.

When his wife woke up she looked out the window and sure enough, there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the drive way. Confused, she put on her robe, ran outside and brought the gift back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Joe has been missing since Friday.

For the love of sushi

I really enjoy sushi.  For Christmas my parents gave me a do it yourself sushi kit.  Last night Ben and I decided to give it a shot.  We had no idea it could be so complicated!!  You can't just boil some rice.  You have to make Tezu and sushi vinegar and fan the rice.  Literally fan it!!  3 hours later it was finally finished.  After this experience I have a new appreciation for sushi!

All set up and ready to go!

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

I am only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hairspray I use, and the friends I have.

Friday Funny (A day late)

A blonde was driving down the street and gets stopped for speeding.  The officer, also a blonde, steps up to the window and asks to see the the speeders driver's license.
After looking for some time, the driver asks the officer, "What does my license look like?"
The blonde officer tells her is small and has her picture on it.
So the blonde driver finds a mirror in her purse and hands it to the officer.
The officer replies, "Oh, I'm sorry; I didn't realize you were a police officer."

A True Friend

True friends in life are hard to find.  I was lucky enough to have a best from from the moment I was born.  My sister is by far the best friend anyone could ever ask for.  She's always been there anytime I need her....and even those times that I don't.  She's a friend who can be brutally honest in a loving way.  She's always full of advice, wanted or not, has words of encouragement whenever you need them, and offers an ear when you need to vent.  Melissa is the best shopping buddy and is always up for a good chick flick.  Even though I probably don't say it enough, thanks Melvus for being such a great friend and a great sister.  And no matter how far apart we are, you'll never be replaced.  I love you more than you'll ever know!

Long Time Coming

Earlier I posted about my Aunt Julie's delicious Thanksgiving banana cake.  I was blessed to have her pass it on to me!!  So I'm turning it into my Christmas cake.  I made it for the first time this year, and although I was nervous, it turned out pretty well!  Ryan, my brother-in-law's younger brother ate 4 pieces!  Here's a few pics of the master piece.
