A Little Friendly Competition

My dad and I have a little friendly competition going on to see who can have the biggest weight loss percentage. The loser owes the winner a chocolate cake. Ironic, I know, but hey, it'll be a great reward!! I've hit a weight loss plateau, and my dad has been trying to lose weight for a while, so what better way to motivate each other, than to compete!? Wish me luck, and if you know of any great weight loss tips, pass them along!

Friday Funny

A Bottle Of Wine

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.
As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.
With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.
Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman.  The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.
"What in bag?" asked the old woman.
Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine.  I got it for my husband."
The navajo woman was silent for another moment or two.  Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said, "Good trade...."

Random Thoughts and Updates

I don't really have anything new and exciting to blog about, so here's just some random going ons in my life...
*My parents are in California right now and went to Disneyland today.  I'm completely jealous.
*I was hired on at my new job as a temp to hire.  My temp period was supposed to be up at the end of July, but yesterday, my boss told me they've decided to buy out my contract and hire me!  YAY!!  That means, a pay raise, and I'll get the 4th of July off, with pay.
*I sponsor a kid through Compassion International.  They sent out an email saying they've sponsored a million kids.  That's awesome!
*The "green peace" people drive me nuts!!  I hate how I can't even walk down the street at work without getting attacked.  And, all they want is your money.  $20 a month, actually.
*KiKi is the best snuggler of a dog ever.  She curls up around your legs and makes it so hard to get up in the mornings.
*Mini cakes are SO much more time consuming that regular cakes.
*I can't stand the Lakers.
*I love the thunder storms that shake the walls.
*I've come to realize it's a lot easier to gain things than it is to lose them....pounds and debt especially.
*I made a fun little birthday cake for the office tomorrow.  Hopefully they'll be impressed with my baking skills.

Cakes, Cakes, and More Cakes

This weekend was packed full of baking! I was doing cakes for a party for my friend Tracy who is getting married in August. I started baking Saturday morning around 10:30 and didn't go to bed until 2 in the am. And I still wasn't done!! I was COMPLETELY exhausted!! I was so excited to go to bed and get some good zzz's. Unfortunately, I had cake nightmares. I was dreaming that my already frosted cakes were melting, and all of the frosting was sliding off. It was horrible!! Thankfully, the frosting was still in tact. I finished with about 40 minutes to spare! But, the good news, everyone LOVED them. Such a relief!! And, such a fun get together!

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

The secret of getting ahead is getting started.  The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.

Great Weekend

It's been a long time since I've posted anything.  Sorry!  But, I'm back.  And I've had a great 3 day weekend.
Friday night I grabbed some happy hour sushi with some friends, watched some basketball, and got to enjoy the rain.
Saturday I headed up to Estes Park with my parents and Kiki.  They had an arts festival going on, so we walked around and ate funnel cakes and caramel apples.  So good!!!  And so bad for the diet, but totally worth the indulgence.  That night I watched the Nuggets game with some friends.
Sunday I headed to church and then to another arts show along the 16th street mall.  I love art shows.  They're free and it's fun to see all the creative and different ideas people come up with.  It started pouring down rain, so we headed over to a restaurant called Earl's.  They have an upstairs patio that is covered and has a half wall.  They turned on the heaters, so we stayed nice and toasty and got to watch the most amazing lightening storm.  That night I won $10 playing black jack with friends.  Beginners luck!
Today I got to sleep in which was amazing!!  And went for a great run in the rain around wash park.  I also found my new super cute cherry background!  I love cherries.
Such a great, relaxing weekend!!
And, GO NUGGS!!!

Jellies!

Did you ever have Jellies when you were little?  I used to LOVE those shoes.  The funny woven plastic, the nasty smell.  It didn't get much better than that when you were little.  Yesterday I was out shopping with my mom, and we found some jellies!  Same woven plastic and the same nasty smell.  So of course I bought them!  I wore them out today and i actually got several comments on them.  Who would've thought!
